A member of the Progressive Party of Working People (GUE-NGL), Neokolis Sylikiotis, is the most influential Cypriot MEP in the European Parliament. Before joining the European Parliament in 2014, Sylikiotis graduated in mechanical engineering and served as a Minister in the Cypriot government for about seven years (2006-2013). In the EP, he occupies important positions within his political group, the European United Left and Nordic Green Left. In fact, he is Vice-chair of the group and its political coordinator in the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE).
