I. General Information

A. Scope of the VoteWatch.eu Privacy Policy

This privacy policy governs the manner in which VoteWatch CIC (a Community Interest Company registered under UK law) collects, uses, maintains and discloses Personal Data collected from users of the www.votewatch.eu website ("the Site"). This privacy policy applies to the Site and all products and services offered by VoteWatch CIC.

B. Commitment to Privacy

VoteWatch respects the privacy of the VoteWatch subscribers and other visitors to the Site who may choose to provide Personal Data. VoteWatch recognizes the need for appropriate protections and management of the information that VoteWatch subscribers and other users provide. VoteWatch has adopted, implemented and conducts its activities pursuant to the OECD Privacy Principles and this Privacy Policy to assist you in understanding what types of information VoteWatch may collect, how that information may be used and with whom the information may be shared.

II. Information VoteWatch Collects

While most of the Site can be viewed anonymously, the following data is collected in specific sections of the Site:

-your e-mail address; -your socio-demographic data (age, gender, and nationality).

III. How VoteWatch Uses Personal Data

A. Statistical Analysis

To measure the visitors’ interest in, and use of, various areas of the Site and the various programs that VoteWatch administers, VoteWatch will rely upon aggregate data, which is data that does not identify you, such as statistical and navigational information. With this aggregate data, VoteWatch may undertake statistical and other summary analyses of the visitors' behaviours and characteristics. VoteWatch may use third party suppliers to collect and analyze this information. Although VoteWatch may share this aggregate data with third parties, none of this information will allow anyone to identify you.

B. Personal Data

VoteWatch will only collect, store and use your e-mail address to send you periodic emails in relation to news, updates and other VoteWatch related materials. You may choose to opt out of our email lists at any time, by clicking on the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of the email message.

C. Sensitive Personal Data

When collecting Sensitive Personal Data (i.e. personal data specifying medical or health conditions, racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, criminal convictions or data relating to the sex life of an individual), VoteWatch will always seek your affirmative or explicit consent for our collection, use or disclosure of Sensitive Personal Data. In some cases, including when using VoteMatch and other specialised tools, we may also ask for socio-demographic data (such as gender, age and nationality). Collecting this data helps us prevent abuse of the tool(s) that would result in a skewing of aggregate results. It also helps us to better tailor our services to our different audiences. You have the option of generating individual statistics that only you can see, or you may publish aggregate (non-personal statistic) that all users can see.

IV. Retention of Personal Data

VoteWatch will retain your Personal Data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose(s) for which it was collected and to comply with applicable laws. Your consent to the use of your Personal Data for such purposes(s) remains valid after termination of VoteWatch relationship with you unless otherwise notified.

V. Safety Measures

VoteWatch takes measures to maintain the confidentiality of your Personal Data and protect it from unlawful disclosure. VoteWatch will not make your Personal Data available to the general public or third parties.

We implement a variety of security measures to maintain the safety of your Personal Data when you enter, submit, or access your Personal Data. The Site has different layers of security depending on the layer of implementation: network, server and application.

The server is protected from unauthorized access: root access is only permitted through SSH and never directly; all user passwords are long, randomized and changed frequently. Database access is permitted only from local host, no external computer can directly connect from outside to the MySQL server running on the machine.

All files accessible through Apache are owned by a low-access level user. Application holes, like SQL injection or unauthorized access to the admin interface were also considered and checked against. Backup is run daily, both on the files and on the databases from the server.

VI. Cookies

VoteWatch uses session cookies, in order to keep the user logged in when using the VoteMatch tool. This cookie is deleted when the user logs out of the system.

VoteWatch uses Google Analytics to track user activity on the Site in order to provide a better user experience. See section III for more information.

VII. Storage and, Disclosure of Personal Information.

A. Storage of Personal Information.

Personal data collected by VoteWatch may be stored and processed in the European Union or in the European Economic Area. By using the Website, you consent to any such transfer of information outside of your country.

B. Disclosure of Personal Information.

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your Personal Data unless you request or otherwise consent to such disclosure or such disclosure is required or permitted by applicable law or, if in VoteWatch’s good-faith belief, VoteWatch determines that such disclosure is necessary to: (a) comply with any law applicable to VoteWatch or comply with legal process or investigation involving VoteWatch or the Website; (b) protect or defend the rights or property of the VoteWatch brand, the Site and/or the Site’s users.
